Hi, I’m Rachel
Born & raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Rachel grew up watching old musicals with her grandmother and enjoying the soft, dreamy voice of Disney’s Cinderella (Jazz singer, Ilene Woods).
Rachel studied music throughout her childhood and in college at University of Michigan, but never felt like she had found her musical “home”
…until, in her early 30s, while travelling through rural Missouri for a wedding, she heard a faint, radio station playing Ella Fitzgerald’s Air Mail Special - featuring her signature, playful and acrobatic scatting. It just was so striking, it was so alive… Rachel was hooked.
Rachel quickly googled “how to study jazz music” and a few months later found herself travelling the country, attending jazz intensives at prestigious music schools, then eventually enrolling as a jazz vocal student at SUNY Purchase in Westchester, New York.
After taking a break during the pandemic to move back to Ann Arbor and have a family, Rachel is excited to be back in the jazz scene!
