Stan “Getz” it

I’m learning Stan Getz’s solo from Pennies from Heaven (which, btw, is fantastic) and I found myself down a rabbit hole of Stan Getz-ness and I just need to share a few things.

1- Veronica Swift’s vocalese solo from Pennies from Heaven is pretty much note for note the Stan Getz solo (!). A few times she goes up an octave, but otherwise, it’s pretty dead on.

I then discovered this podcast called “Jazz Insights” - see it on Apple Podcasts by clicking HERE

This podcast actually has a five part series on Stan as he Getz around the jazz world, it’s pretty comprehensive and great, the first one in the series is here.

There is also the website (which seems like it may be a continuation of the podcast? unsure…) but more Stan Getz here.

Alright, so now I just need to learn this solo, learn to play this song and get practicing! Simple, right?
