Stop Singing Nasally

my life’s work.

This week I’m doing some new exercises to help get my tongue out of the way so I can sing and sound good! Here’s what I’m doing:

Tongue Out Lip Trills: getting my tongue out of the way and opening up the vocal tract. To keep this working I have to keep from collapsing in the back. Blow up a balloon in the back, imagine singing with an egg in my mouth, the beginnings of a yawn or a slight surprise.. etc etc.

Tongue Holds a Pen Trick: While looping your tongue around a pen (!!!) sing “bah bah” or “beh beh” in scales or whatever exercise. This helps ensure you’re keeping that tongue out of it!

Practice not being nasal when speaking: slow down, relax, speak more open and relaxed.
